How to corner a catchphrase
We’re running a competition on Facebook – come up with a jolly slogan for one of our badges and win yourself a gift box of cordials and other goodies.
There’s a knack to writing catchphrases which magazine writers practise for fun when deadlines aren’t too pressing. Here’s the secret: first, choose a word to play with. For example, Belvoir. Run through a list of all the words that rhyme with it – diva, leaver, fever etc. Then, choose one of those words and toss it about in your mind for well-known catchphrases linked to it.
So, if we use fever as our example, Saturday Night Fever becomes Saturday Night Belvoir. Or possibly Belvoir Fever. In a fever for Belvoir?
The list of possibilities is endless! Check out our Facebook page to see some of the hilarious entries that have already been put up.
