Hedgerow photo competition update
We’ve been running a picture competition, in conjunction with Butterfly Conservation, to find truly lovely photos of Britain’s unique hedgerows.
We want to say thank you to everyone who has taken part – the standard has been spectacular and for every entry we received (there were nearly 1,000) we have donated £1 to Butterfly Conservation.
In fact, we are such committed supporters of the charity that we are going to give it a much larger donation. Butterfly Conservation, whose president is Sir David Attenborough, is one of the most hands-on and effective organisations fighting to protect our endangered butterflies and moths.
It not only provides the country’s most comprehensive monitoring of the species, it also works hard to protect our countryside by providing the government with environmental advice and greatly raising public awareness about the dangers our wildlife faces.
Our competition has closed now and we are putting together a shortlist of photos which we will then forward to Butterfly Conservation for final judging. The winner will receive £100 shopping voucher for John Lewis/Waitrose and a framed, blown-up copy of their picture. There will be six runners-up who will each receive a case (6 bottles) of elderflower cordial.
The winners will be announced before Christmas.
