Hot Toddy
30th January 2011
If winter’s getting you down, why not try making a spicy hot toddy with our Apple & Ginger Cordial and a generous slug of Scotch whisky? It’s just the thing to warm you up after a brisk wintry walk and, while we can’t guarantee it’ll cure your sore throat or snuffly nose, it will certainly make you feel a lot more cheerful about them!
- 15ml Belvoir Apple and Ginger Cordial
- 3 wedges of lemon, squeezed
- 150ml boiling water
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 thin slices root ginger
- 35ml Scotch whisky (blended whisky if available)
Method:
- Put all ingredients into a cup with a handle and allow to steep for 30 seconds.
- Squeeze the juice from all three lemon wedges into the cup, then discard two of the wedges.
- Stir well and garnish with orange and lemon zest, if available. Add more cordial or lemon juice to taste.
(Should be served in a cup with a handle as the vessel will get very hot)

This is a really nice idea. Going to give it a go. And I’d like some nice spring ideas too – bored of winter, and now looking forward to Spring and trying to make it happen sooner!
Oh, ymmmmmmum…My kids would love this!In summer we can get berries really really cheaply. Now I’m thinking raspberry cordial, home made! How good would that be!
Add the whisky AFTER discarding the two lemon wedges. Pour the whisky over the back of a teaspoon so that the spirit floats on the surface. Stir immediately before drinking. To add whisky earlier “cooks” off the alcohol and lowers the efficacy.
mmmmmm they all sound duociiles! We don’t buy cordial only because its a non-essential, but ot make it would be a different thing all together! We have some oranges I’ll have to try it!
